windoze releases first operating system since i started drinking (legally)
Tuesday January 30th 2007, 8:41 pm

windoze confusesso it turns out that windoze 2007 (vista, whatev) launched today. that’s pretty sweet. and i’m being serious. do i like windows machines? no, am i going to use one again in the future? no. are they good computers? well… they’re computers, and those are good. so kinda.

i’m not trying to be an asshole or anything. i grew up on windows machines, and i still like computers, so i suppose i can vouch for them. and there’s no possible way windoze 2007 isn’t going to be sweet. i mean, it’s been like three lifetimes since they released an OS so basically anything is gonna be better.

i remember how i used to love when windows released an os. i seriously ate that shit up. windows 95? yes please! windows 2000 (dual processor)? rock me! windows xp (windows 2000 that doesn’t look like shit)? say goodnight! throughout though, windoze still sucked, but there wasn’t anything better/easier.

i used linux for a long time, because it was one of the previous two stipulations – better – but it was certainly far from easier. it could be a struggle doing basic shit, even though it was possible. there were always opensource solutions, they just usually sucked more than they helped.

and then windoze decided they were going to dick around for what seems like ever and apple was like, ok, well while ur doin’ nothing i’m going to stop listening to office managers and start listening to, well, anybody else. and then powerbooks were born, and then windoze died (to me) and that brings me to today.

the day windoze remembered they were in the operating system biz.

so i’m stoked to check out the new os. i hear it looks really slick and OSXy which many will appreciate because it’s better that way. and i’m not saying anything about windoze stealin from os x cause os x stole from others and everybody on the internet builds (steals) on top of everybody else cuz that’s how it goes. (because it’s often the fact that people copy those who are doing it well).

if anybody gets a chance to check it out and let me know how it goes, feel free. i’m very interested. maybe i’ll throw in on my macbook pro.

psych.

espn gametrackso i was bummed that the saints did end up gettin’ stomped by the bears today. i would have been less bummed if it looked like they gave a shit in the fourth quarter. they were huggin’ it out with the other team with like… more than 3 minutes left. i’m not intersted in sein’ that.

but… a brother in new orleans, a brother in chicago. win win. and the bears defense was really impressive.

really, this post is more to highlight one of the best examples of flash that’s out on the interwebs nowdays. it’s the espn live game cast that they do for both professional and college football. quickly to the point, it’s sweetness. you get all kinds of info. clean interface. intuitive. quick loading. switch between games. get different views. stats. feed fantasy football monster. eat it up, that’s good internet.

nice! (think borat)

global warming has got me down

inconvenient truthyesterday, my roommate and i sat down with a chilean named raimundo and watched al gore’s an inconvenient truth. it is an excellent movie. it is a serious movie, but still interesting to watch. it’s very convincing. there seems to be good hard science behind most everything that is said (if not everything). in the movie they talk about the devastation that would occur if greenland’s ice were to melt off the island into the sea. basically it would put a good amount of Manhattan under water. which sucks for many reasons. oh yeah, it would also put lots of florida, china, louisiana and 60 million people in india under water too. it’s a devastating scenario to put it lightly.

it is at the very very least. an inconvenient truth.

so that was yesterday.

then today i’m checking out the nytimes.com top ten emailed list and what do i see (besides the #1 story being a love editorial about shamu (that i actually thought was pretty good))? yes that was a double parens.

inconvenient truthi see a story about greenland melting for fucks sake. so in the course of a night it personally went from an inconvenient truth that i’d kinda been ignoring to a pressing issue with real consequences.

so in an effort to do something i’m telling people i know about the dvd and making an effort to change myself. so check out the dvd. rent it, netflix it, blockbuster it, youtoob it, scope it on the interwebs, whatever. it’s a problem and it’s a big one – but it’s a problem that we can have an impact on. that actually made a huge difference for me. we can still get somewhat of a handle on this prob. in 10 years, who knows, we might not be able to say the same thing. but right now we can help turn things around.

so i’m gonna buy some energy saving lightbulbs, and read up on my local politicos’ policies, and you’re gonna watch the flick, right?

cool.
